Do I need Drone Insurance under Part 107?

1 min. readlast update: 03.30.2022

As of now, the FAA does not require drone pilots to be insured to operate under Part 107.

Getting drone insurance is all up to you. It can be expensive to have a blanket, ongoing policy. There are also some companies that offer on-demand policies where you can just buy the insurance for a specific flight.

Do you want to take that risk of flying without insurance? It's not just if you crash into a tree or water. What about liability, if your drone crashes into someone or something and causes bodily harm or monetary damage? What if you get sued for something that happens during the flight? Some clients you fly for may also require that you carry insurance.

These are all considerations that you'll have to weigh on your own.
